Do You Always Get a Free Mattress When You Work for a Sleep Brand?
BTW, if you work for a sleep brand, I want to hear from you

Let’s talk about perks.
As an independent writer and editor, the one thing I miss is employee perks.
I got free food when I worked at a pizza shop in college. (You bet that was my favorite part of the job.)
My brief time at a jeans store came with a massive discount on clothes. (I wore a lot of Lucky Brand in 2007.)
Now that I’m my own boss, I’ll treat myself to the occasional latte. (It’s the little things.)
Why bring this up? A recent assignment had me researching employee discounts, which got me thinking…
What kind of discounts do you get when you work for a mattress company?
Over the last several years, mattress companies have stepped up their customer perks by offering lifetime warranties.
(Is it that an indicator of an increase in product quality or a highly competitive industry? Perhaps both?)
But what about the people behind the scenes? If customers are getting that much, what type of incentives do employees get?
If it’s your dream to work at a mattress company (har har), here’s a look at the employee discounts provided by some of the biggest names in the sleep business.
Note: I am strictly covering employee discounts here. For details about health insurance, PTO, and fully-stocked kombucha refrigerators, you’re on your own.

Guess Who’s Back, Back Again?
I have an overnighter in New York soon, which means I’ll be sleeping on more hotel mattresses!
But Alison, you know the world is bigger than New York. Right?
Of course I do, but it’s where my work has been leading me lately. It also helps that New York is a very popular travel destination.
That said, I am hoping to manage a few shorter trips over the summer to other destinations.
Unfortunately, flying freaks me out a little right now (even though I know it shouldn’t) so I’m partial to short road trips and longer train rides. Maybe I should book a sleeper train. I wonder what type of mattresses Amtrak uses…
In case you missed it, here’s my first (and so far only) Sleep Tourist piece:

Let’s talk about hotel mattresses.
Question of the Week
Where are you off to this summer? Share your travel plans in the comments. Help those of us who need a little inspo.
Thank you so much for joining me for another edition of More Than Mattresses. I know this week’s installment is pretty thin, but life has been absolutely busy, for which I am grateful. (My sleep consistency, on the other hand…!)
Sleep well,
Alison
