Hello everyone —
I pushed “publish” instead of “schedule” for my last post, which I bet confused my subscribers on Friday night.
Ten years ago — or maybe even five years ago — I would have given myself a severe tongue lashing over this. How could you make such a dumb mistake? What the hell is wrong with you? Can’t you do anything right, [vile name]?
Now? I think it’s pointless to waste energy on changing something that’s already happened. I’ve also come a long way from allowing my mistakes to define me.
Had I learned these lessons in my 20s or my 30s, I would have saved myself a lot of frustration and tears. Alas, I’m committed to setting a much healthier tone in my 40s. I’m going to stumble, but I know I can get back up and keep going.
I hope you enjoyed the nice surprise in your inbox on Friday (or Saturday, depending on where in the world you are). A few clearly didn't care for the timing and/or the content, though, as I lost some subscribers in the aftermath. Guess I've learned my lesson there!
Still, I want to keep my promise of sharing new posts on Sunday mornings at 9 am ET. Here’s a recap of what I covered this month:
I Forgot to Replace My Bedroom Clock and My Sleep Has Never Been Better
Should you sleep without a clock in your bedroom, too?
This CEO of a Circadian Health Tech Company Follows Her Own Rhythm
Vicki Powell once built watch sensors for Apple. Today, she’s the CEO and co-founder of Lume Health, a company that’s developing the first wearable device that monitors hormone levels in real-time.
The Sleep Tourist's Bucket List #1 [New York City]
I’ve had the good fortune of staying at some excellent properties in New York City and even had the chance to try a $7,000 smart bed in the heart of Bryant Park. Alas, these are the five hotels where I want to book a stay as soon as possible.
From the PR Pile... No more cardboard beds for Olympic athletes?
Saatva is going to the 2028 Olympics, Skechers makes mattresses now, and Incora is designing smart earrings for women's health.
Ask a Mattress Tester #1: How do you make a dorm bed suck less?
Welcome to Ask a Mattress Tester, where you send me questions and I answer them to the best of my ability.
Coming next week…
I spent a month tracking my sleep the old-fashioned way with a journal and a pen while my smart devices sat in my desk drawer with dead batteries. Did I manage to reset my sleep and sharpen instincts that had been dulled by technology, and what’s my relationship with wearables like now?
I have a lot of great stories planned for July and August, but I’m always on the lookout for new ideas. Is there a topic you’d like to see me cover? Share your suggestions and questions in the comments.
And of course, I appreciate your support, especially at this early stage. I’m still in the building phase, so if you’re here to see things through from the ground floor, know that I am very grateful that you're here.
